Elizabeth (Libby) Vick

Libby Vick, Assistant Dean in charge of the Speech and Drama Program at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), works with ClearWays to offer communications workshops.  Libby also provides public speaking coaching, and offers one-on-one training and small-group workshops.  Among other specialties, she offers advice about working with colleagues and clients from other cultures.

Originally from the Chicago area, Libby earned both a Masters degree in Speech Communication, in 1981, and a Bachelors degree in Mass Communication, in 1979, from Illinois State University.  Following graduate school, Libby moved to Washington, D.C., and worked in the press offices of Senator Dave Durenberger (R-MN) and Senator Charles H. Percy (R-IL).  In 1983, she returned to Chicago and served as Deputy Director of Communications for Senator Percy's reelection campaign.

In 1985, Libby joined the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) as Manager of Public Affairs.  At JAMA she handled all press relations, developed marketing materials, and represented the trade association in matters involving Congress.  The position required her to quickly absorb complex technical issues, and smoothly handle the writing and discussion of them within the delicate sphere of U.S. trade relations.

Libby left JAMA to join the NOVA faculty in 1990.  She currently serves on a variety of NVCC academic committees and has been active on campus in many ways, including faculty advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the Muslim Student Association.  She also worked with Hayes, Domenici & Associates, a public relations firm for which she did writing, marketing, and events planning.  Libby spends her spare time with her husband and two daughters, and is an avid reader, hiker and gardener.
