Kingston, Karen, Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui, 1998.

In Feng Shui terms, says practitioner Karen Kingston, “clutter” is stuck energy that has far-reaching effects physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Any kind of clutter creates an obstacle to the smooth flow of energy around a space, she says, creating stuckness and/or confusion in the lives of occupants.

Kinston describes four categories of clutter:

  • Things you don’t use or love.
  • Things that are untidy or disorganized.
  • Too many things in too small a space.
  • Anything unfinished.
This little book is not so much a how-to guide as an anecdotal account of how and where clutter accumulates and why it is so bad for you. Kingston argues that clutter can make you feel tired, confused, or depressed. She urges you to clear clutter not only from the zones in your rooms, but even from your body, through techniques like fasting and colon cleansing
