Davich, Victor N., The Best Guide to Meditation, 1998.

The title is overblown, but this is still a good introduction to meditation techniques. It touches upon a number of religious traditions, describes a variety of simple exercises, and introduces the lingo common to discussions of meditation.

This book is written for “regular people” who want to give meditation a try. It opens with the assurance that meditation is simpler than you think, and then advises that the only way to understand what meditation means is to give it a try. Then it gives clear, detailed instructions about how to get started.
